Comfort is highly subjective and will vary widely from person to person. That being said, we at Zen Sleeping believe that back sleepers weighing less than 150 pounds will find this mattress to have a medium firmness, while those weighing more than 150 pounds will find this mattress to be more soft-medium. Side and stomach sleepers – check out the next section!

If you weigh under 150 pounds, the Lucid 10-inch will feel medium-hard for you. Those weighing more than 150 pounds, the mattress will have a medium feel.

Absolutely, and you can find it here on Amazon. Coverage lasts for 25 years after purchase and is handled on a case-by-case basis.

Unpacking the Lucid 10-inch Memory Foam Mattress

The Lucid 10-inch Queen-size memory foam mattress arrives in a standard shipping box that weighs roughly 57 pounds with dimensions 5 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft. Open the box, and you’ll find that the mattress is contained in an airtight plastic bag that needs to be cut open.

TIP: We recommend you open the mattress and let it expand in a room that is currently unoccupied, well-ventilated and receives a good amount of sunlight per day. When mattresses are first opened out of their vacuum-sealed bags, they immediately start to expand and typically give off a “new memory foam” smell which can sometimes be quite strong and bothersome. Letting the mattress air out and expand in a ventilated room for a few days is the best way to get rid of the smell. Also, don’t sleep on it during this period of time, or place any sheets or mattress protectors over it.

Where Was The Lucid 10-inch Made?

The mattress was manufactured in China by Linenspa. Mattresses manufactured in China are usually not recommended (especially by us) unless they meet strict quality control standards. As you’ll see in the following section, mattresses made by Linenspa pass.

Linenspa’s website also features their products (some that are featured exclusively) and also runs great promotions from time to time, so it definitely pays to check their site out if you’re deciding on their mattresses from another site like Amazon.

Is It Made From Safe Materials?

Yes, the Linenspa 10-inch memory foam mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, which means their mattresses are :certipur

            – Made without ozone depletes
            – Made without PBDE flame retardants
            – Made without mercury, lead, and other heavy materials
            – Made without phthalates regulated by Consumer Product Safety Commission
            – Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality

            Thickness & Density

The Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress features 2 layers.

The top layer is the memory foam layer, and is the surface upon which you need to rest on – do not flip the mattress over. This layer is made of memory foam, is 2.5 inches thick and has a density of 3 lb pcf. The thickness is on the lower end of the acceptable thickness range, but the density is fine. Depending on the ILD rating and density, a memory foam top layer that is not thick enough may provide less support for heavy people; these individuals may end up sinking through the memory foam layer and hitting the bottom layer, which is much firmer and uncomfortable. For that reason I normally like to recommend a top layer that is at least 3 inches long. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means, though – just look at the later section on feel and firmness to see why.

The bottom layer is 7.5 inches thick and contains a high-density polyurethane foam base. Both the thickness and contents of this layer are pretty standard, and to be quite honest, keeping it simple is usually the best path to comfort.

            Smell

Sometimes (not always) a memory foam mattress comes with a “new memory foam smell”, which can range anywhere from very light to extremely pungent. While mileage can even vary a lot among the same mattress brand, most can be grouped in terms of how smelly they are. For me, the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress had no smell. However, we also asked 300 verified purchasers about smell to get a general verdict, and this is what we found out:

            • No Smell - 50%
            • Light odor, gone in 3 days - 23%
            • Mild odor, gone in 5 days - 18%
            • Strong odor, gone in 7 days - 8%
            • Strong odor, never went away - 1%

91% of all purchasers noted either no smell, a light odor, or a medium odor. That’s pretty good, especially considering that for even the 9% who noticed a strong smell, the smell typically vanished within a week. Smell should therefore be no issue for future owners of the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress.

Total points awarded for Smell: 18.5 / 20

            Feel & Firmness

Arguably the most important section of any mattress review, here we will be discussing the feel and firmness of the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress. First of all, I want to stress that these factors are very subjective and can differ a lot from person to person. That being said, we can make some generalizations about any mattress with enough data points to back it up. In this section you’ll find my professional opinion on who the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress will be most comfortable for, as well as some nice graphs to visualize the opinions of over 300 verified purchasers.

            Feel & Firmness Test

My wife and I (weighing 140 and 200 pounds, respectively) tested the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress for 7 nights. I’m a natural back sleeper, and my wife is a natural side and stomach sleeper. Here’s my verdict for back sleepers:

If you’re a back sleeper who weighs 150 pounds or less/, the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress will have a medium feel . With a 3 lb pcf density, the memory foam layer will contour itself softly around the body without making you sink too low. Now, if you’re a back sleeper weighing 150 pounds or less and prefer soft or super-firm mattress surfaces, the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress will not be the best choice for you.

Average weight and heavyweight back sleepers (weigh 150+ pounds) will find this mattress to have a soft-medium feel. This means you will likely sink a bit lower into the memory foam comfort layer than individuals who are lightweight (weigh less than 150 pounds), but the 3 lb pcf density will still provide enough firmness to prop you up without letting you sink too low. That’s what we mean by “soft-medium”: soft enough to contour to your body’s curves, but not so soft that you have trouble moving around or getting off the bed.

Now, on to side and stomach sleepers:

The Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress has a medium-hard feel for side and stomach sleepers who are lightweight (weighing less than 150 pounds). If you remember from above, the mattress has a medium feel for back sleepers of the same weight; the same surface will feel softer for your back than for your side/ stomach, and this is a normal phenomenon. When you sleep on your back, you are distributing your weight on a bigger surface area, which means the surface will feel “softer” for you. This is also because your back is much more muscular than your side and stomach. So for example, if you’re a natural side sleeper and prefer soft sleeping surfaces, you need to look for a mattress that will feel “super-soft” for back sleepers.

For side and stomach sleepers who are of average weight or more (weighing 150+ pounds), the mattress will have a medium firmness – you will feel some contour around your body, but with very very minimal sinking.

            Our Verified Purchasers Weigh In

While my professional opinion can be helpful, it’s even more helpful to show you real data from people who use the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress on a day-to-day basis. Here is what we found after conducting “feel and firmness” questionnaires with over 300 verified purchasers:

            • Comfortable feel - 83%
            • Too firm - 8%
            • Too soft - 9%

Overall, 83% of our verified purchasers have a comfortable sleeping experience with the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress. On the other hand, 9% said it was too soft and another 8% thought it to be too firm.

My rule of thumb: if you prefer soft-medium to medium feel mattresses, the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress will be a great choice for you.

Total points awarded for Feel: 17.5 / 20

            Durability

How can you tell if a mattress will be durable and last long? Well, there are 4 main things to look for: adequate density, high-quality garment construction, resistance to surface/ edge abrasions, and stain release capabilities.

            Density

A memory foam mattress with an adequate density in the top memory foam layer will last for years without becoming defected or sinking. With a density of 3 lb pcf, the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress has more than an adequate density to prevent defects from occurring.

            Garment Construction

Durable memory foam mattresses tend to have high quality “garment construction”, which basically means that both the cover and the foam material will be very resistant to tearing at the sides, seams, edges, etc. To get a better idea of how well the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress fares in terms of garment construction, we asked our 300 verified purchasers to tell us if they’ve noticed any tears in their mattress. The average purchaser has owned the mattress for 1.5 years, and this is what we found out:

95% reported no tears of the mattress foam, and 89% reported no tears of the mattress cover.

            Surface / Edge Abrasion

If a memory foam mattress shows a lot of wear on the cover or even the foam underneath after 6 months to a year of use, this is a sign that the mattress is not durable. Here’s what our verified purchasers had to say about the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress in terms of the existence of surface and edge abrasions:

91% reported no wearing of the mattress cover surface, and 100% reported no surface/ edge abrasions of the actual foam material.

            Stain Release

A mattress (and cover) are more durable when they are better able to release stains. Of the 300 verified purchasers, 119 had experienced stains on the mattress at some point. Of those 119, the stains were removed easily 65% of the time; the other 25% of stains were not removed at all.

            Verdict

Given the performance of the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress on these 4 factors of durability, we believe the mattress will last at least 5 years.

Total points awarded for Durability: 18 / 20

            Heat Regulation

Would-be purchasers of memory foam sleeping products tend to worry about the foam’s ability to trap heat and make the material’s surface too hot for comfort. While this is a just complaint, “sleeping hot” should not be a real issue if the memory foam product is made with high quality materials. To get a better idea of the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress’s ability to diffuse heat, we turned to our 300 verified purchasers to ask for their opinions. Here’s what we found out:

            • Slept cool - 15%
            • Slept neutral - 19%
            • Slept warm - 39%
            • Slept hot - 27%

Not as great as we would like; 73% of purchasers either slept “cool”, “neutral” or “warm”; 27% slept “hot”. While the Lucid 10-inch memory foam mattress did quite well in other categories, it isn’t so great with regard to heat regulation.

Verdict: If you are not a heat-sensitive person, the Lucid 10-inch will most likely be a good fit for you; if you are someone who naturally tends to sleep hotter than the average person, look for mattresses that have a better ability to regulate heat. For a similar thickness mattress with better heat regulation, we recommend the Sleep Innovations Shea 10-inch memory foam mattress (you can check out our review here).

Total points awarded for Heat Regulation: 15 / 20
