Update (2018): Zen Sleeping has published a new review of the new Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch mattress. We are very pleasantly surprised at the revisions and improvements made to this mattress, and are very happy to be able to now recommend Signature Sleep to our readers!
Old, Outdated Review:
We at Zen Sleeping have a simple message for those interested in purchasing a memory foam mattress from a manufacturer called Signature Sleep: be very careful. We explain why in this short review.
Reviewing the Signature Sleep 12-inch
Originally, we were planning on purchasing and testing the Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch Memory Foam Mattress. Before doing anything, however, we usually get in touch with some verified purchasers to get a general idea about a mattress; well, this is where the problems began. We managed to interview around 10 purchasers before noticing a slightly alarming trend: some customers were complaining about a chemical smell coming from the Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch memory foam mattress. While “new memory foam smells” are generally expected with the purchase of a new memory foam mattress, when customers describe the smell as “chemical”, it is worrying.
Curious to see if other purchasers have also had chemical smell issues from the Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch memory foam mattress, we checked out reviews on Amazon… and things basically got worse. There are quite a few customers saying the mattress has chemical smells that were too noxious to leave alone, so they got rid of the mattress. One customer even said that they developed a chemical sensitivity from the mattress, and that they believe the mattress contains unacceptable levels of formaldehyde, methylene chloride and/ or PBDE’s.
Other Major Issues
There are two other types of complaints we learned from verified purchasers of the Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch memory foam mattress; we classified these complaints as major, because there is no real solution for these issues other than to ask for a refund. These issues also reinforce our final verdict, which you can find at the bottom of this review.
A lot of customers complained about deformities appearing on the mattress within a very short period of time. These deformities include random sagging on the mattress, the edges being taller than the middle, bumps or protrusions, and warped/ wrinkly mattresses. There is really no excuse for these issues, especially at such a high rate .
Never Fully Expanding
We heard from a lot of customers that the Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch memory foam mattress never fully expanded to its 12-inch thickness. After heading to Amazon to check out some more reviews , we soon realized this is a pretty frequent issue with this mattress. As with the other issues discussed so far, it is pretty alarming to see so many customers complaining about the mattress never expanding to its full thickness.
We firmly believe in providing our readers with the most impartial reviews, and doubly so when it comes to potential health hazards. Not only did we find many customers complaining about a harsh chemical smell that caused sensitivities for some sleepers, but we also found many customers that had deformed mattresses, or mattresses that never even expanded fully. These issues are not excusable, and we believe they are due to very poor manufacturing standards from Signature Sleep. With that, we can confidently recommend that the Signature Sleep Memoir 12-inch memory foam mattress SHOULD ONLY BE PURCHASED WITH CAUTION.
There are a lot of better 12-inch memory foam mattresses out there.
